Mission Involvement
Gatetree is an independent, autonomous church that is affliated with the Southern Baptist Convention and partners with more than 42,000 other Baptist churches to support more than 10,000 missionaries throughout the U.S. and around the world.
Through the International Mission Board and North American Mission Board, Gatetree is enabled to do with other Southern Baptist churches what could not be done independently. In 2007, Southern Baptists began almost 20,000 new churches around the world and witnessed more than one-half million people trust Christ as Lord and Savior and then be baptized as a testimony of their new faith. Gatetree also belongs to the California Southern Baptist Convention, impacting 33 million people with the Gospel of Christ. We also engage in local mission projects in the Bay area. Gatetree gives financial contributions for mission ministries the world over through the Cooperative Program (Southern Baptist financial program for missions and evangelism.)
Operation Christmas Child provides a practical way for the Gatetree Family to share the joy of Christmas with children living in countries that have been ravaged by war, famine, extreme poverty, disease or natural disaster. Operation Christmas Child, a ministry of Samaritan's Purse, is headed by Franklin Gram. Last year our church contributed almost 100 shoe boxes to the 19.4 million shoe boxes collected worldwide and distributed to children in more than 96 countries. Each one of these unique gifts is a special reminder to the children that receive them that someone cares about them and God loves them. Operation Christmas Child is an easy, affordable and practical way to share God's love.
There are also yearly clothing drives to provide coats, clothes and shoes to indigent people in the community. We recently collected five dozen pairs fo shoes for children in war-torn Afghanistan.
Recently several of our children presented Michael Onibokun (pictured fourth from left) with a check for $2000 to be used for Precious Souls Ministry for Orphaned Children in Nigeria. The money was collected each Sunday morning through the kids Penny March, a regular mission offering given by Gatetree kids. The kids also collected school supplies for the Nigerian children.
